Your Health and Wellbeing this Autumn

As we move into the colder weather, and seasonal illnesses becomes more prevalent, we wanted to make you aware of some of the measures Mitie has in place to assist you and give you an update on Covid-19.

What’s the latest with Covid-19?

Recent Covid-19 developments in the UK include:

• Booster vaccinations being made available for people aged 50 and over, frontline health and social care workers, and people at higher risk from Covid-19. The NHS will contact you if and when you are eligible for your booster which is likely to be six months after your second dose. If you’re over 50, you can also book your vaccination appointment online if it’s been five months since you had your second dose. If you’re a frontline health and social care worker, you can also book your vaccination appointment online if it’s been six months since you had your second dose. To book online go to the NHS Covid vaccination booster website. If you are eligible, it is advised that you receive your booster to help improve your protection.

• The travel rules changed on 1 November 2021, with the remaining countries being removed from the Red list. This means that if you are fully vaccinated, you no longer need to quarantine on arrival, but you will still need to take a day two test. You can now use a lateral flow test purchased through the Government recommended suppliers. Please check the individual travel rules for any country you are travelling to. They have differing entry requirements, and the details can change at short notice.

• All children aged 12 to 15 are now eligible to get the vaccine. These are being offered through schools and at some walk-in centres or can be booked online. You can find out more on the Government website or use our virtual GP services to speak to a doctor if you have any questions.

• The Government are still offering free lateral flow test kits for you to keep at home and test yourself regularly. You will now need a QR code to pick these up free from your local pharmacy and other pick-up points. Please go to to fill in your details so that you can receive your collection QR code. We recommend you test yourself regularly as a precaution, to help us reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19 amongst your friends, family and colleagues.

Our working environment

We’ve worked hard to make sure our Mitie offices are safe places to be. We’ve introduced many Covid secure measures like our Luxibel air filters, digital temperature readers and extra cleaning to keep you safe.

You can also do your bit to keep yourself and others safe:

• Where you can, let fresh air in, especially if you meet people indoors.
• Wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces, especially when you are commuting to and from work.
• Make sure you get tested: use a PCR test if you have any of three main symptoms (high temperature, new continuous cough or loss or change to your sense of smell or taste) or regular lateral flow tests if you have no symptoms.
• If you have symptoms, remember to self-isolate until you get your result – and if you test positive continue to isolate following Government guidelines.

Flu Jab

The flu vaccine is a safe and effective vaccine. It’s offered every year on the NHS to help protect people at risk of getting seriously ill from flu. This year the NHS has expanded the criteria for a free flu vaccine. This is because of the extra risk to health posed by having both the flu and Covid-19 circulating amongst the population.

For every colleague that is not eligible for a free vaccine, we’re giving you a free voucher that can be used at any Boots Pharmacy that offers the vaccine service. To collect your free voucher, you need to fill out this form, and a voucher will then be emailed to you. Once you receive the voucher, please follow the instructions to go to the Boots website to book your vaccination.

Several colleagues have already taken up the service and have testified to how smooth the process is, so don’t miss out and get protected from the seasonal flu, for free!

Virtual GP Service

When you’re not feeling well it’s important to seek proper medical advice as soon as possible. We know that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to see your local GP, so we wanted to remind you of the free Virtual GP service that we offer. You can call the 24-hour helpline on 0345 319 3107, or access the service via the web portal. The consultations are free for you and everyone in your household, and are also available in several languages.

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

During this time of year, there are several situations such as Covid and loneliness, that can impact our mental health and wellbeing. If you have any worries or concerns, please use our Employee Assistance Programme. It is available 24/7 all year round, so help is only a click or a phone call away. You can access the service via the web portal with the organisation code Mitiewell. We would also suggest saving the relevant 24/7 helpline number in your phone:
