We’ve won another NHS contract!

We’ve won a seven and a half-year contract to deliver services for Lister Hospital and Hertford County Hospital, two of East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust’s hospitals.

The contract is worth £4 million a year and over 200 of our colleagues will provide cleaning services for the two hospitals as well as portering services for Hertford County Hospital. It adds to our winning streak, having been awarded facilities management and catering contracts with three other NHS Trusts in England earlier this year.

Technology will be central to the contract, and we’ll be rolling-out sensors that monitor footfall across the hospitals’ public spaces, including reception areas and entrances, in real time. This data will help identify spaces that are being used most and therefore should be prioritised for cleaning, helping keep hospital employees and patients safe.

We’ll also introduce a new autonomous scrubber-drier robot to keep the Hospitals’ floors spick and span. This technology will mean cleaning colleagues can focus on other key tasks, like disinfecting touch points and other critical areas. With sustainability a priority, the robot has been designed to use less energy and water than traditional machines, so we can help the NHS achieve its goal of becoming net zero by 2040.

We’ll also provide NHS site managers with access to our real-time reporting platform. As well as being linked to the real-time footfall sensors, they’ll have access to a range of information about the work carried out across the hospitals, including the areas earmarked for priority cleaning.

Alice Woodwark, Managing Director, Communities, Mitie, said:

“We’re very pleased we’ve been chosen to deliver cleaning services for Lister Hospital and Hertford County Hospital, kicking-off our partnership with East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. We look forward to using our healthcare cleaning expertise, alongside our technology and sustainability experience, to help keep hospital staff and patients safe, while contributing to the NHS commitment to reach net zero.”

Kevin Howell, Director, Estates and Facilities, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, said:

“Clean, and well-maintained facilities are essential in an acute hospital. We’re looking forward to working with the Mitie team at Lister Hospital, and Hertford County Hospital to ensure safe, clean sites for our patients, staff and visitors.”
