Article 29 July 2021 Shining the light on mental health At Mitie we recognise that a healthy workforce plays a vital role in achieving the “Exceptional every day” ethos. Our number one priority is to operate a safe and sustainable business and we’re proud to promote a culture where wellbeing is embedded and embraced by our entire workforce. That is why we are delighted to announce Mitie Projects have pledged their support to Lighthouse Club, The Construction Industry Charity and have pledged our commitment as a Company Supporter to raise awareness of mental health within our business and the industry. The Lighthouse Club, The Construction Industry Charity is the only charity that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families. Established in 1956, The Lighthouse Club, are 100% dedicated to the welfare and support of the Construction Community in Ireland & the UK. Last year they helped 2400 families in crisis, a 70% increase in complex support cases. You may not be aware that every working day in the UK and Ireland two construction works take their own life or that stress, anxiety and depression accounts for a fifth of all work- related illness. We want to make a difference through the promotion of both Mitie’s existing employee support network and the Lighthouse Club campaigns, such as Inside the Hard Hat and promotion of the Construction Industry Helpline or app. From August, Mitie Projects, will be kicking off an initial twelve-month programme, in collaboration with Lighthouse Club, of mental health awareness initiatives, fundraising events, internal and external support campaigns as well as simply getting our teams to talk. So please keep an eye on future communications.
