Article 10 January 2023 Living and breathing our LiveSafe culture Safety is everyone’s responsibility. The LiveSafe Rules may save your life and the lives of people you work with. However, safety in the workplace is only half the story; our LiveSafe culture doesn’t stop at the end of our working day or shift but continues on to when we are with our families and loved ones. We should put the LiveSafe Rules in practice every single day of our lives; wherever we are, whatever we do. Matt Corner, Mitie Operating Unit Director, Healthcare has been teaching his 5-year-old son about the dangers of frozen water over the holidays, following the recent tragedy, where four young boys from Solihull tragically died after falling into a frozen lake whilst playing. Matt watched with his son Raif a short video of Manas who is a volunteer lifeboat crew member with Lough Neagh Rescue and explains the inherent dangers of going onto ice and how we can educate our children to keep them and others safe. Afterwards, they went to the local canal to see the ice and reinforce the lessons discussed in the video. Raif learning about the dangers of frozen water Matt said: “He’s now got a sensible view of the danger and is keen to tell a grown up if others are on the ice.” Remember we should all put the LiveSafe Rules in practice every single day of our lives; wherever we are, whatever we do.
