Learning & Development: SIA Training Back to: L&D Home Page What’s Top-up training? Top-up training is critical, mandatory safety training that all Door Supervisor (DS) and Security Guard (SG) licence holders must undergo before their qualifications can be renewed. The change to include safety training as part of the licence renewal requirements was made by the SIA (Security Industry Authority) on 1st April 2021. Who’s it for? Top-up training is for all Door Supervisor (DS) and Security Guard (SG) licence holders who wish to renew their licences. What’s included? Mandatory eLearning and a classroom course. The eLearning must be completed before you attend to the classroom course. If you don’t, you will be turned away. Who pays for the training? Mitie pays. We sponsor the licence fees, pay you to attend the training and pay the cost of the training. Three things you need to know To attend a Top-up training course to renew your licence you will need to: Have a first aid certificate with at least 12 months left until it expires Complete mandatory eLearning BEFORE you attend a top-up classroom course. FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions What if I don’t have a first aid certificate with at least 12 months until it expires? You will need to complete a Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work course before you attend a Top-up training course. How do I book a Top-up course? You will be contacted by the Top-up administrator at least 2 months before your licence is due to expire to confirm which course you are booked onto. What if I can’t attend on the date chosen for me? Email us at top-up@mitie.com to let us know. Please ensure you give as much notice as you can, so we have enough time to fit you onto another course in your area before your licence expires. If you delay, we may not find a course in your area. Will I get paid for attending the training? Yes, the Top-up administrator will put you into a training shift on Workplace+. This will alert your manager that you will need to be paid for the training and back-fill your shift, if required. What if I need to pay to travel to the training? Speak to your line manager about reimbursement. Once I have completed the training does my licence automatically get renewed? No, once the training is completed, the exam papers are sent to the awarding body, Highfield, for your paper to be marked. The results will be uploaded the SIA website. You can then apply to renew your licence through your local licensing team. Who is my local licensing team? Ask your line manager. What if I forget my password on Learning Hub? Raise an AskHR ticket on People Hub or contact the Learning Admin team on 0330 123 4005 between the hours of 09:00 and17:00. What if I fail my exam? You will be contacted by the Top-up administrator who will arrange a resit for the exam(s) that you have failed. There is a good chance that this will be an eAssessment and will need to be invigilated wherever you take the exam. This will all be arranged for you. What if I have been told I need to switch to a Security Guarding licence, but I want to keep my Door Supervisor licence? Mitie will only pay for your training and for your time if it is a requirement of the contract to keep a DS licence. If you choose to keep your DS licence, you will need to book time off and pay for your own training. Mitie will pay for the licence renewal once you have completed your training.
