Article 21 June 2022 How we celebrated 70 years of service When it comes to once in a lifetime events, Mitie colleagues know how to celebrate. This month our Central Government & Defence team rose to the challenge of marking Her Majesty The Queen’s historic reign for customers across the UK and beyond. And what a Platinum Jubilee it was! The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) at King Charles Street hosted the annual Trooping of the Colour reception that’s attended by ambassadors and diplomats, ahead of the Horse Guards Parade. Our catering teams provided refreshments and quality service, while our operations team made sure the building looked its best. Both teams also delivered their exceptional service at Lancaster House, where the Foreign Secretary hosted afternoon tea ahead of the Jubilee. The Queen’s Birthday is a big day in the Embassy calendar, and after a two-year break this year’s was set to be an even bigger celebration. This normally involves black-tie parties hosted by the Ambassador, which Mitie colleagues helped to prepare by arranging marquees, setting up, decorating, providing porterage, painting, decorating, gardening, and more! Over in Cyprus, we teamed up with CSP to provide and fund portable toilets and lighting towers for events across the Sovereign Base Areas, including a charity concert and beacon lighting at Happy Valley, Episkopi. Meanwhile, the jubilations continued further afield as our people led a Mitie stall at a street party on Ascension Island in the South Atlantic, even getting a mention of thanks from the Administrator. Lastly, how many can say they handled the actual Queen’s Speech?! Over in our Affiliates team, Jackie Laidley and Jenny Wright from the Cabinet Office arranged the printing of the Queen’s Speech that was read out to Parliament by HRH Prince Charles, and other documents as part of the State Opening of Parliament in May 2022. With the Queen unable to attend, the speech had to be redrafted in just 24 hours, printed to a non-standard size. Several samples later, the text position and size were spot on. So impressed, Jackie and Jenny even received compliments from the Parliamentary branch of the Cabinet Office, as well as from the Prime Minister himself! A huge well done to everyone who supported this historic occasion.
