Delivering 1 million Self-Isolation Visits for The Home Office

At the beginning of April, Mitie undertook a challenging contract from the Home Office to conduct visits to check that travellers returning from an overseas country on the UK amber list were self-isolating according to government guidelines. Named ‘Project Echo’, the contract has c2,000 frontline colleagues conducting visits across the length and breadth of England, consistently completing over 10,000 visits each and every day, with the highest daily total a whopping 13,700 visits!

At the start of August, just four months on from the beginning of the contract, we are delighted to announce that we have completed our millionth visit! To deliver this many visits in just four months is an incredible achievement, given the logistical and operational challenges posed by the nature of the contract, and one that everyone involved in Project Echo should be very proud of. The Echo team is made up of individuals from different backgrounds and with a diverse range of skills. They really compliment each other to form an excellent team and their dedication to the success of this project is remarkable. This includes the teams at our testing sites who, when time allows, assist the team and conduct visits too, often in hard to reach or challenging areas of the country.

Gary Culloden, National Operations Director, Business Services, said, “This is a contract that many didn’t think could be done, especially with a tight 72-hour mobilisation period, yet here we are, not only doing it, but excelling as well. There are huge logistical challenges to delivery, especially considering the changes in legislation regarding self-isolation, yet we’ve consistently managed to deliver over 10,000 visits every day since the end of June which is fantastic.

The teams involved have been magnificent. From the operational teams behind the scenes, to the frontline heroes conducting these visits day in, day out, our work has truly helped support the country through the COVID-19 pandemic and we are all incredibly proud of the exceptional service you continue to deliver.”

The feedback from the client has been exceptional, with particular reference to the level of service that has been delivered. Steve Whatson, ECHO Programme Director, Home Office, said:
“I have been extremely impressed by the way that Mitie have stood up and then delivered this service. To go from nothing to delivering 1million visits in just over 4 months is an excellent achievement and one that everyone should be very proud of. The visits have helped keep the country safe and reduced infection during a very challenging period.

We look forward to maintaining these excellent standards, as we continue to work with Mitie to deliver this important service, in support of DHSC”.
